In the late 1970s, Dick Carter launched this large sister to his Carter 30, to which she bore a striking similarity. She was also a fast, well-mannered cruiser with racing potential. She was conventionally laid out below, well built, with six berths and a generously appointed galley and chart table.
Unusually for a boat this size, she had wheel steering and a transom-hung rudder, which gave positive, if slightly heavy steering. In 1983, a limitededition version was produced which featured a lifting keel and ‘Luna’ rig – a schooner with jibs only on each mast. It was not successful. Only a few Carter 35s were sold in the UK, but the standard version is well worth a look if you can find one second-hand.
