St Peter Port welcomed 26 Southerly yachts to Guernsey for the annual spring regatta, which ran over the bank holiday weekend from May 24-28.

The Southerlys had travelled from as far afield as the East Coast and all points along the South Coast for the event, and were joined by local sailors Adrian and Pennie Heyworth, sailing their new Southerly 42RST,Maid Honor. Four days of racing included heavy weather contests around Sark and Herm, organised by the Guernsey YC.

‘This is our 18th annual Southerly Rendezvous and Regatta and brings us back to Guernsey once more. We have all looked forward to the hospitality and glorious sailing conditions in the Channel Islands and will be mixing a series of day races with a barbecue on Herm and social functions in the Guernsey Yacht Club,’ said Ben Davies, Sales Manager at Southerly, at the start of the event.

Heyworth, a local sailor, and his crew on boardMaid Honor, scored four first places and one second, winning the regatta. A distance of just one foot was all that keptMaid Honorfrom victory at the end of the first race of the regatta. After leading throughout the 12-mile race around the buoys off St Peter Port, Heyworth and his crew had their glory snatched from them at the last moment byAqua Regina, the Southerly 42RST owned by Nigel and Yvonne Rudlinger from Brighton.
