War of the Worlds- type fortresses could soon by the norm across the oceans of the globe as foreign military bases become harder to find as the planet grows increasingly nationalistic.

Already the military-industrial complex in the US is investigating the idea of building fortresses at sea. Plans include units like Lego bricks which can be stored and rushed to an area of sea-bed when necessary.

Modular rafts – platforms mounted on pontoons – would be linked together to create flat surfaces which could still bend with the waves.
