Relatives of a British yachtsman missing in the Med are appealing for help.

Mark Bamford, pictured, was planning to sail from Methoni in southern Greece to Syracuse in Sicily.

He was expected to make landfall a week ago.

Mark was sailing with one other crew but no further details about the second man have been released.

The men were on a custom red and white 45ft trimaran called Pulau Tiga with SSR number SSR121689.

Italian and Greek authorities have searched waterside areas and Interpol have now been alerted. The British embassy in both countries have also been advised.

Mark’s partner Amanda has been in Sicily waiting for him and doing what she can to raise the alarm.

Meanwhile Mark’s children from a previous relationship and other relatives are doing what they can from the UK.

Jamie Hunt, Mark’s step son-in-law, said: ‘We believe he may have been blown off course into Zakinthos (Zante) in the Ionian. Mark is an experienced sailor who has done this route before in about two weeks, but he last called home on October 4.

Mark, 67, reportedly had no liferaft on board or EPIRB but the boat was fitted with a VHF radio.

Jamie said: ‘If anyone thinks they have seen Mark or alternatively if they’ve been in a relevant harbour or port recently and not seen his catamaran there, that would also help us to narrow down the search.’
