It is said that dog-lovers choose pooches which share their owner’s features and at the London Boat Show I began to wonder if the same could be said for boat-owners.

When I visited the Bavaria stand I could not help but notice how many prospective purchasers of the Black Forest bateaus had healthy girths. In fact, as I looked, I became aware that the Clipper Marine salesmen were also amply proportioned in the midriff region.

Later, while looking over the Oyster stand it was noticeable that the customers making appointments for the £2 million 65footer were what was once called ‘patrician’. And, again, the ladies dressed in the Oyster corporate uniforms, had the characteristics garnered from Swiss finishing schools.
