Simon Le Bon and Geoff Holt among competitors
Participants in the RYA Sailability Regatta, including singer Simon Le Bon and outstanding quadriplegic yachtsman Geoff Holt, enjoyed good breezes and great sailing in the regatta on 8 October run by Sunsail from Port Solent, Hampshire.
The regatta, now in its fifth year, raises substantial sums annually for Sailability and is supported by Sunsail. The racing was run on Sunsail’s fleet of identical Sunfast 37 racing yachts and the teams headed out in to the Solent to fight it out for the 2008 title.
The first race started in bright sunshine and a steady force 4, though within minutes of the start the wind started to drop leading to a long first race and a battle of tactical wits. After the completion of a second race and with the wind starting to drop, professional yachtsman David Bedford and his crew including Simon Le Bon were crowned overall winners, just ahead of Ted Roose’s team.
Sally Walsh, Sunsail Events Business Development Manager, comments: “We are proud to support the RYA Sailability Regatta and are delighted with yet another successful event. Sailability is such a worthwhile cause, enabling disabled individuals to enjoy the sport of sailing and achieve things they never dreamed possible.”
