Following the terrible accident involving a RIB and holidaying family in Cornwall at the weekend, nowhere have I read what speed the powered craft was travelling at when it threw its crew overboard.

I’m told this boat was capable of 60 knots, if it was travelling at even a third of that and made an unexpected right angled turn one would expect disaster of some kind.

Whatever happened it is a grisly lesson to the novice that water, unlike tarmacadam, is not inert.
