Proof, were it needed, that boats and kilts don't mix
The Kilt. Not, as Ambrose Bierce once quipped, “A costume sometimes worn by Scotsmen in America and Americans in Scotland”, but an enduring symbol of Scotland, seen at formal functions, the Highland Games and, if wikipedia is to be believed, increasingly in the workplace.
But it’s rarely seen as a sailing garment.
Why not?
Perhaps this picture, taken as the Glaswegian entry in the Clipper Round the World Race motored into the Albert Dock in Liverpool last week, demonstrates why it’s unlikely that Musto et al will be marketing a Gore Tex version any time soon…
