Quadriplegic sailor arrives in Brighton for a well-earned break
Having set off from Dover on Monday, quadriplegic sailor Hilary Lister is currently in Brighton. She arrived at 1910 last night, after a wet and cold leg from Eastbourne.
She is aiming to be the first female quadriplegic to sail round Britain. in 2005 she sailed across the English Channel, and last year she sailed non-stop around the Isle of Wight.
On her blog, her team wrote: “Although Brighton was originally planned to be a one night stopover, they will now stay an extra day to give Hilary and the crew some well-earned rest.”
Hilary suffers from a rare disorder known as reflex sympathetic dystrophy. This means she has no movement in her arms or legs, and controls her boat using a ‘sip and puff’ system.
