David Vann embarks on his circumnavigation

David Vann today set off on his home-built trimaran Tin Can (see this article for more info.)
After only one day of sea trials he set off on a planned 4 month solo circumnavigation. His boat, built of crudely-welded aluminium, has attracted much adverse comment from the sailing world, with many claiming it is unsafe. Vann, however, remains hopeful. In his blog, he wrote, “I’m much better equipped than I had originally planned, with two of just about everything and lots of backup options for important systems such as steering. I’m going to sea with a strong, capable platform.”
Keep up with his blog here.
