A notice of race has been created for the 11th edition of the Azores And Back Race on 6 June 2015, with 80 skippers already expressing interest. Race director, Francis Shillitoe, told YM: ‘Although June 6th 2015 seems distant,for a sailor with a yacht not yet prepared for ocean racing, there is plenty to do and the clock is ticking.’

‘After 40 years the challenge is much the same. Technology has
made navigation easier but the thrill of sighting the beautiful Azorean islands in mid-Atlantic is not diminished. On arrival in the well-equipped marina in Ponta Delgada, we have always received an extremely hospitable welcome from Club Naval.’

A qualifying passage of 500 miles is a requirement and ‘an essential test for boat and crew,’ said Mr Shillitoe, ‘If you wish to join our Fal 500 Race on May 2014 all will be most welcome in Falmouth and at the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club.’
