Hull in such a bad state it is 'incapable of being towed'
MSC Napoli had to be rebeached yesterday afternoon, Thursday 12 July, reports the Maritime and Coastguard Agency(MCGA). The decision was made by The Secretary of States Representative for Maritime Salvage and Intervention, Robin Middleton, following the re-floating of the vessel earlier in the week. The wreck has been found to be in a worse state than previously thought, with the crack of the hull being some three metres wide in places. On the basis of these findings, ‘the vessel is incapable of being towed’, claim the MCGA. Napoli was rebeached at high tide in shallower waters to the north of where she was originally sitting.
