As Sir Robin Knox-Johnston knows only too well, electronics can be flighty. An estimated 80% of instrument failures on boats are caused by wiring – no wonder, then, that Tacktick picked up the News Business Excellence Award for Innovation for their ground-breaking Micronet wireless technology at a ceremony last week.

With 131 entries across the various categories, The News Business Excellence Awards are a tough competition to win and in the Innovation category Tacktick was up against industry leaders such as BAe Systems, Halyard Marine, Eads Astrium and McMurdo.

Celebrating its tenth year in business in 2007, Tacktick was the first and remains the only company producing wireless electronics for dinghies and has used the development of this technology to remain leaders in wireless electronics for cruising and racing boats and is a market leader in the development of solar powered technology combined with low powered electronics.

Joint Managing Director of Tacktick Clive Johnson collected the award on behalf of the team and commented; ‘These awards are very important for a company like Tacktick; they recognise the importance of small innovative companies such as ourselves which lead the field in terms of wireless marine electronics. The award is a fantastic boost for our team and a great start to 2007 when we will be celebrating10 years of wireless electronics.’

Tacktick have launched a host of new products for 2007 including the new Race Master wireless compass, speed and depth for sports and keel boats, the new wireless Power Boat Wind instrument for motor boat owners and the wireless Remote Display (pictured), compatible with all brands of instruments and suitable for all sailors.
