The 20 yachts in this year's Sail Cruise crossed the channel comfortably today
The RYA’s Sail Cruise in Company has reached Cherbourg safely. Having left Poole Quay at 0430 this morning, the 20 yachts had a wet start to the day with little wind. A soggy sounding Graham Snook, YM’s Staff Photographer, who is sailing onboard a Bavaria 36 belonging to Victory Yacht Charter of Haslar Sea School, reported in from the French port as the sun finally broke out to mark their landfall. The company, which ranges in size from a Hunter Ranger 26′ to a Legend 41, depart for Guernsey on Wednesday before going on to Alderney where they will sail their separate ways.
The aim of an RYA cruise in company is to help cruising sailors venture further afield with the knowledge that there are other boats following the same route and that there is a lead boat at the end of the VHF who can offer advice and assistance. For each cruise that takes place RYA Cruising plans the route, arranges the berthing in each of the destinations and organises social activities in a number of the ports of call.
