Would you like to go cruising on one of the most fabled sailing routes in the world – 3,000 miles across the Pacific Ocean, from the Galapagos islands to the South Sea landfall of the Marquesas, in French Polynesia, where artist Paul Gauguin painted?

And would you like to sail on one of the most famous yachts in the world, Sir Francis Chichester’s recently restored 53ft ketch, Gipsy Moth IV?

This voyage of a lifetime is up for sale through the UK Sailing Academy in Cowes, the new owners of Gipsy Moth IV, following Yachting Monthly’s campaign to save the yacht. The total cost is £10,000 (including flights, transfer, food, accommodation, Galapagos entry licence and insurance). The crew fly out to the Galapagos islands on 14 March 2006 and return from the Marquesas on 12 April 2006.

The money will go towards paying for disadvantaged youngsters to sail on other legs of the 20-month round-the-world voyage, via Tahiti, Tonga, Auckland, New Zealand, Sydney, Australia, Cairns, Darwin, Indonesia, Singapore, Bali, Phuket, Sri Lanka and up the Red sea to the Med.
The yacht returns to the UK next May on the 40th anniversary of Chichester’s triumphant arrival in Plymouth after his record-breaking solo circumnavigation.
