Adrian Flanagan, the 45 year old solo sailor who set off from Southampton last Friday (28th October) to become the first sailor to circumnavigate the globe non-stop via the polar regions, has decided to pull into Falmouth Bay for shelter and rest after a ‘baptism by fire’ start to his campaign.
Understandably, Adrian, sailing on his 38’s stainless steel yacht Barrabus, had set himself a departure date to prevent ‘the pre-mission creeps’, but the conditions couldn’t have been worse since he left. Having had virtually no sleep, plus interior damage from the constant slamming, he has altered course to drop anchor in Falmouth, where he plans to gather strength and await the more favourable conditions predicted for next week.
