Three rescued from yacht on rocks
Three crewmen have been rescued from their ferro-cement Endurance 40 after it crashed into rocks off the west of Scotland.
The Peter Ibold designed ketch, Classic Wave, ran aground on the south west tip of the Isle of Kerrera near Oban after the engine failed in a ssw Force 6.
An RNLI Oban lifeboat, which brought the men to safety, made several unsuccessful attempts to pump water out of the yacht before abandoning it. Yacht owner and skipper Bob Hartley said: “They saved our lives.”
After successfully taking off one crew member, the yacht sank. Two yachtsmen and an RNLI crewman were thrown into the sea but managed to grab hold of a life-raft.
