For the first time in the history of the event, screens are being installed at locations on the Solent so that spectators and supporters can follow the JPMorgan Asset Management Round the Island Race with race updates, reports and the all important results.

At Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth, the service will be available on the waterfront at the entry to the pontoons. Visitors will be able to enjoy the waterside cafes and restaurants, at the same time as keeping abreast of news on the race. The marina is home to two former America’s Cup boats which will be competing, and on Friday 17 June the impressive Open 60 fleet of round the world yachts will be gathering ready for their separate start in the race early the next morning. These will include Ecover, with Southampton-based skipper Mike Golding, recently second placed in the Round Britain Race, and Pindar Alphagraphics entered by Emma Richards, the first British woman to complete the Around Alone Race.

Screens are being provided at Royal Lymington Yacht Club, Royal Southampton Yacht Club, and Royal Southern Yacht Club (Hamble), in addition to the Island Sailing Club itself. Skippers will be interested to view the Raymarine weather briefing, from expert meteorologist Chris Tibbs. This will be available from 1900 onwards on the evening of Friday 17 June.
