Young crabbers banned from age-old pastime
Suffolk County Council have banned youngsters from catching crabs off a river jetty, a pastime which has gone on since Norman times.
They say crabbing off the jetty at Felixstowe Ferry on the River Deben is too dangerous because a small ferry – which runs across to Bawdsey – docks there.
Harbourmaster John White, who retired as ferry operator last year, instigated the ban.
