Children are to be denied the joys of their local regatta thanks to the rising insurance costs needed to cover public liability.

The seaside village of Beer, in Devon has decided to stop the regatta after 80 years of the event.

The organisers say they cannot find a premium they can afford to give them 5 million (pounds sterling) worth of public liability cover.
