Grenada authorities crackdown on storm thieves
Police are hunting looters of yachts and homes in hurricane-hit Grenada as a clean-up operation began.
Hurricane Ivan – with winds of up to 140 knots – has knocked over more than 200 shore-stored yachts in the Caribbean island.
Yachtsmen – including members of the Ocean Cruising Club – have traditionally moved their boats to Grenada during the hurricane season as a requirement of their insurance cover. Hurricane Ivan is only the third storm to hit the Blue Water paradise in 150 years.
