German architects plan offshore sculptures for North Sea

Two German architects who have never visited Dunwich in Suffolk, but who have been inspired by an internet search of the town’s sunken churches are planning an offshore sculpture.

The East of England Development Agency believes the scheme, described as ‘ludicrous’ by locals, will promote Dunwich and have given the pair £100,000 to see if the scheme is feasible.

If it goes ahead the sculptures will resemble the lost churches and be built of steel half a mile off the coast.
