The Office of the Receiver of Wreck celebrates its 150th anniversary
On Monday 9th August, The office of Receiver of Wreck will be celebrating its 150th Anniversary with a reception aboard HMS Warrior, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
The early years of the Receiver of Wreck were undertaken by HM Customs & Excise Officers based at numerous UK Ports. In 1994 one centralised Receiver of Wreck was formed covering the whole of the UK, with backup from local Coastguard Officers.
The range of wreck material dealt with is diverse and ranges from historically important material such as Armada period wrecks to more current wrecks such as ‘Cita’ and the ‘Kodima’, located around the UK coastline.
