A cockleman has found a seahorse at Leigh-on-Sea in Essex: proof that the River Thames is less full of industrial waste than once it was.

The delicate creature normally does not swim further north than the Canary Islands and Leigh-on-Sea is more famed for its shellfish than such exotica.

The seahorse has been ‘stabled’ at a local aquarium.
