A major new exhibition of Edward Hopper paintings includes his New England lighthouses
The late American painter Edward Hopper is well known for his studies of metropolitan alienation, but a new show includes his paintings of the bright and breezy coast of Maine.
Hopper was fascinated by both natural and artificial light and his paintings of New England lighthouses made in brilliant sunshine symbolises both types of illumination.
The Hopper exhbition is currently showing at London’s Tate Modern.
