FINAL REMINDER FOR ENTRIES TO THIS YEAR’S CONCEPT BOAT COMPETITION

There is just over a month to go until the closing date for submissions to the 2004 Concept Boat competition, supported by the Environment Agency. With the final deadline looming, budding boat builders from all over the world are encouraged to get designing and submit their entry. Not only will the winner receive the top prize of £5000, but they will have the chance to see a prototype of their design on display at the famous Schroders London Boat Show.

Concept Boat is an annual competition to encourage enthusiasts to design boats for the future. This year’s competition has an environmentally friendly theme. Anyone from budding amateur boat designers to professionals architects can enter . This year the judges are looking for designs for a recreational or commercial craft that either make increased use of renewable resources, are energy efficient, of low emission or non-polluting design or that minimise the effect of boating on the marine environment.

A good selection of interesting, quirky and practical designs have already been submitted, demonstrating a real sense of commitment to this unique challenge.

The competition is organised by the British Marine Federation (BMF) and the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA). Shortlisted entries will be on display at the Southampton Boat Show in September and the first prize of £5000 will be presented to the winner at the Schroders London Boat Show in January 2005, where the second and third place winners will receive £3000 and £2000 respectively.
