This year's Skandia Cowes Week will benefit from software assisted course setting to avoid any contra tents between classes
CCC has had the benefit of some sophisticated computer software to assist the course setters for several years. This has undoubtedly led to better courses and to less congestion at marks.
For 2003, this software will be further enhanced to allow the volunteer race officers to monitor fleet positions far more easily. With only a few classes to worry about, this aspect of race management is not too much of a problem. However, in Skandia Cowes Week, with 35 classes and around 1,000 boats racing, the problem can become huge. This new software should make decisions on shortening courses simpler and lead to even fewer races running out of time.
