Two schoolgirls were plucked from waist-deep mud as the flood tide approached after one of them dialled 999 on her mobile phone.

The Lee on Solent Coastguard helicopter, India Juliet, quickly located the children – who were walking dogs – near Bouldnor Cliff on the Isle of Wight.

One of the children was taken to hospital for checks.
