Nearly all Scottish fish stocks are outside their ‘safe biological limits’ and in danger of never recovering. Yet policy on fishing is complex, wasteful and often framed by politicians who don’t care about marine husbandry – how many MPs have fishing boats as opposed to farms ?

So now the Marine Conservation Society is lobbying the Scottish parliament to appoint a Minister for the Seas; overhaul outdated legislation to manage the coastline and the seas more effectively; introduce ‘regeneration areas’ to restore fish stocks and wildlife.
