Fishermen to help save leatherback turtles
The Marine Conservation Society has launched a new UK Turtle Code to encourage fishermen to save the endangered leatherback turtle.
The code advises fishermen on how to rescue turtles which become entangled in the buoy ropes of crab pots. And it also asks yachtsmen to report any sightings of the world’s biggest turtle.
The global population of nesting females is believed to be down to 26,000.
