New facilities for 2013 season
Visitors to Cherbourg will be able to take advantage of modernisation to the Port Chantereyne starting this autumn.
Among other improvements, there will be a new WC, restaurant and yacht club. The area around the marina will also be redesigned
With a capacity of 1,550 berths, Port Chantereyne is the largest marina on the Normandy coast and one of the busiest French ports with an average of 8,000 visiting yachts per year.
The current marina office was built in 1975, when the first section of the port was commissioned. One of the objectives of the €2m work is to improve the visibility of this building for yachtsmen arriving from the visitors’ pontoons, which offer 250 visitors’ berths.
There will also be a nursery and washing-up area. Showers, which became free of charge to visitors in 2012, will remain so.
The main facilities should be ready for the start of the 2013 season.
The marina’s turnover last year was €2.1m, 59% of which came from annual contracts, 20% from visiting yachts, 12% from fuel sales and 6% from the boatyard.
