Skipper’s tips: find a transit
Have you ever picked out a buoy or pier head to use as a transit, but can’t find what you’re looking for from seawards? Check the chart for a really conspicuous object on the shore that you can bring directly behind it. Note the bearing of the transit formed by the two objects and steer to a position where the conspicuous one is on that bearing. The one you’re hunting will be directly in front of it.
