As the Southampton Boat Show comes into view, Graham Snook looks at the new boats at the 2015 Southampton International Boat Show
New boats launched the 2015 Southampton Boat Show
Hanse 315
Seen for the first time at this year’s Southampton Boat Show is Hanse’s new baby, the 315. She’s designed to appeal to almost everyone by the looks of the brochure: from day sailors and those new to sailing, young families as well as those who are retired and are downsizing. Interestingly she’s available with twin-wheels and German mainsheet, or tiller and a conventional mainsheet system taken to the cockpit. Both bow and transom are near vertical maximizing interior space below and the deck has a number of flush hatches to maximise light inside. The cockpit is wide with a broad fold down transom bathing platform. There’s a hull depth locker to port.
Down below there’s a small L-shaped galley to starboard with twin burner stove and single sink while to port there’s a small, simple aft facing chart table. In the aft cabin is a large athwartships double berth, and the forward cabin is all berth with stowage to starboard. The port saloon berth is 1.95m in length, while to starboard it’s 1.67m. There’s a large heads compartment aft.
Who would she suit?
Those after a new small, smart, production cruiser.

Legend 31
This is the first time the new Marlow Legend 31 will be seen in Europe. She becomes the smallest in the newly styled Marlow Legend line-up. Although the smallest in length, she’s beamier than her bigger sister the Legend 33. Part of the beam and interior volume comes from the pronounced waterline chines aft. Which, if she handles like the Legend 37, do much to aid directional stability when heeled. She shares the family characteristics of the piercingly sharp black window line in the coachroof, and hollow bow. Below the extra beam is apparent: there’s a short longitudinal galley to starboard and a microwave is under the small navigation space opposite. The saloon has L-shaped seating around the table, and there’s a short bench opposite. The heads has a built-in shower compartment with seat. Forward there’s a V berth with stowage either side.
Who would she suit?
A couple with a young family taking their first steps on the water

Wauquiez Pilot Saloon 48
Wauquiez have been producing yachts for 50 years now and the Pilot Saloon is the latest model to hit the water. Forward of the mast her deck is conventional with deep safe toe rails. Aft of the mast it rises to accommodate the large coachroof windows. The cockpit is well sheltered behind deep coamings, and a pair of wheels aft. There’s a fold down transom and tender garage.
Inside the 48 Pilot Saloon takes advantage of those lovely big windows down below by raising the saloon and chart table to offer panoramic views out. The chart table is positioned forward opposite the C-shaped seating in the saloon. Forward is a heads compartments and two guest cabins – one with a pair of Pullman berths, while forward is a V berth with stowage to port.
Under the cockpit is a full beam owners cabin aft with private en suite, or if you prefer, there is an option for the owners cabin to be moved forward.
Who would she suit?
Those who want to cruise long distances in style, safety and comfort.

Winner 8
As small fun little boats go the Winner takes a lot of beating. She’s small enough to sail like a big dinghy, with a feeling for sailing often lost in size, and big enough to have a real small yacht feel below. She’s can be an all out racer, or a pocket cruiser, or the combination of both if you wish. I had a hoot when I sailed her earlier this year.

Dehler 46
We were promised the 46 last year, but she was whisked away to Cannes at the last minute. She’s a good-looking boat, and fits well in the performance-cruiser market; being both fast, stylish and comfortable. If you’re more cruiser than racer there are a number of options than make her more cruiser than performance.
