Yachting Monthly visit Boot 16 in Düsseldorf, Europe’s largest boat show, to see the new Bavaria Cruiser 34
Bavaria Cruiser 34
Bavaria’s new 34 feels a little small for a 34ft yacht, not surprising really, as the hull length is actually 32ft, the same as their Easy 9.7, Cruiser 33 and the Cruiser 32 she replaced. What she offers that the previous models didn’t is a three-cabin layout as standard. Of course having the potential to sail with seven other adults in a 32ft yacht might not be everyone’s idea of a fun sail, but if you have a couple of children who want their independence and own space, the layout starts to make more sense.
On deck the cockpit is comfortable and a decent size and Bavaria have managed to add twin wheels (with Jefa steering). Cockpit stowage is limited to two small sole-depth lockers either side, so those wishing to cruise for longer might be stumped for where to stow cruising clobber.
Down below the twin aft cabins are both a decent size, the L-shaped galley is a little small with only a single sink – but it’s usable, and there is no chart table. The good news is that with the teak Alpi interior and white painted tongue and groove effect panels on the hull sides make the interior look really good.
The thickness of the locker edges, solid wood door surrounds and fiddles all add to the overall feeling of quality and style. Forward the use of white panels and teak work well above the V-berth.
Where the Cruiser 32/33 lead the way over their opposition was the large heads compartment, of course, with that area taken up by a cabin the heads has moved forward and shrunk considerably; it’s now small with a toilet, shower and a quirky shaped sink, but not a lot else.
