Jonty Pearce is one! Well, his blog is anyway...

Amazingly, a year has passed since my first entry into blogging with ‘A large man in a small hole’ on May 19th 2015. Producing one every week dismayed me at first, but now, 52 blogs later, I’m still going strong. What sometimes surprises me is how easily potential blog topics appear. Apart from the regular items ‘wot I did on my ‘olidays’ there seems to be enough news, sailing happenings and sheer nonsense to keep the ever gaping YM mouth filled. Actually writing the blogs is the easiest bit; I’m sure my work as a GP is invaluable as a constant stream of what some would cruelly call ‘rear male cow product’ is forthcoming – though I’d call it constructive diagnostic explanation.

When I looked back at the blogs over the year I was surprised by the sheer range of topics that had grabbed my attention. Some are nonsense, some are whimsy, and some are technical. When Kieran, our honourable leader and editor, coerced me into the world of blogging I was a virgin, and had an inbuilt suspicion of what drove bloggers to lay their lives and interests in the public domain. I don’t think that attitude has changed, largely because I don’t really consider these pieces a true blog. However, when looking up the definition of a blog (a truncation of the expression weblog) I find that the description of ‘a regularly updated website or web page, typically one run by an individual or small group, that is written in an informal or conversational style’ is exactly what I’m producing, so I need to revise my self image.

I find one of the strange things about blogging is the process of firing off ones musings into the aether with virtually no feedback regarding their reception. I suppose it’s largely my fault – I do not go onto Twitter or Facebook which are probably the main feedback/chat resources. Mind you, no news is good news as far as I’m concerned – and I’m sure if someone was unhappy Kieran would pass on the bad news to me.

So for the moment, I’m afraid you are stuck with me dredging up odd snippets from the attic of my mind and reports of humdrum happenings from the Pearce’s life. Carol, the Indoor Dragon, does not usually read these pieces so I am generally fairly safe, though I suspect my mother would pass inappropriate comments on to her. I’d better try to keep my nose clean (within reason). After all, I can resist anything but temptation!
