Sailing tickets go on sale

Tickets for the sailing events at the Olympics have gone on sail for the first time.

In previous games the sailing competitions were not ticketed, but they will be in London 2012.

Tickets went on sale on Tuesday and applications will be accepted until April 26, although the system is not first-come-first-served.

Prices begin at £20 and can be applied for at www.tickets.london2012.com.

The racing will be in five areas in Portland Harbour and Weymouth Bay. The main viewing area is a site on Weymouth Beach and the London Organising Committee (LOCOG) is also trying to secure the use of Nothe Fort as a ticketed venue.

It is not known yet if yachtsmen will be able to view the action from their own yachts.

Visitor berthing at Weymouth and Portland harbours will be limited, but the venue, the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, is still waiting to here from LOCOG what on-water restrictions will be in place.
