Historic ships committee wrongly named on threatened list
A sailing organisation has appeared on a leaked list of government quangos that are under threat.
But Yachting Monthly understands from inside sources that National Historic Ships is not about to be abolished and appears on the list by mistake.
The BBC and the Daily Telegraph have published different lists of quangos that they claim are set to be axed by the coalition government and marine body appears on both.
The organisation, formerly known as the Advisory Committee on National Historic Ships, was established in 2006 to advise the Department of Culture, Media and Sport on ship preservation and funding priorities.
It looks after the National Register of Historic Vessels and can offer grants to people looking to restore or maintain classic boats.
