Cowes-based firm Spinlock has won Best Safety Product of the Year for their Lume-On™ lights at the Safety at Sea Awards 2017
Spinlock has been announced as winners of the Safety at Sea Awards 2017.
The company, which recently announced it was expanding its factory at Cowes, was presented with the Best Safety Product of the Year for their Lume-On™ lights – water activated LED lights which can be fitted to any lifejacket.
The Safety at Sea Awards recognise those who improve seafarer competence and risk management with innovations and achievements in the fields of training, operations, equipment and services.
The lights are activated as soon as it hits the water
Spinlock’s Doug Vincett explained how the award winning lights worked.
“Visibility is key for any man overboard (MOB) situation and when we launched the Lume-On™ we saw it as a simple but ground-breaking step forward in lifejacket safety,” he said.
“The water activated LED lights are designed to be easy and cost effective to fit, yet hugely effective. They will transform any standard lifejacket bladder into a large flashing beacon,” added Vincett.

The CEO of Spinlock, Chris Hill said the firm takes sea safety very seriously.
“We are always thrilled to receive recognition for our innovative products. We actively campaign about the importance of individuals taking personal responsibility for their safety at sea by understanding more about their own lifejacket, and part of this is ensuring you can be seen should you fall overboard thanks to our range of lifejacket lights,” he stated.
In celebration of the achievement, Spinlock donated £1,000 to the charity Seafarers UK, which helps support members of the maritime community in need and their families.
