The National Maritime Museum has put Frank Dye‘s Wayfarer dinghy Wanderer back on display following his death in May.

Dye became famous after sailing to Iceland and Norway from the UK on the 16-foot dinghy with his wife Margaret.

They documented their trips in the books Ocean-Crossing Wayfarer, which told of their passage from Scotland to Iceland in 1963, and Sailing to the Edge of Fear, which recalled Frank’s mainly solo exploits on America’s east coast.

Jonathan Griffin, museum director, said: ‘This display is our small way of celebrating Frank’s remarkable life.

‘The case alongside Wanderer includes a copy of the service sheet from Frank’s funeral and his empty boots – which no one else can fill.

‘Frank truly was a legend among sailors and will be greatly missed.’

The wooden Wayfarer will be on display at the Maritime Museum in Falmouth until the end of July.
