Sir Peter's America's Cup yacht joins museum
Winning America’s Cup yacht NZL32 Black Magic is now on display at the New Zealand National Maritime Museum in Auckland.
The iconic yacht, in which Sir Peter Blake won the America’s Cup in 1995, will form the centrepiece of the “Blue Water Black Magic”
exhibition.
The purpose built gallery is part of the multi- million dollar Sir Peter Blake memorial and will make a fitting tribute to the endeavours of one of New Zealand’s greatest yachting heroes.
To see her finally positioned at the museum were two original crew members Tony Rae and Kevin Shoebridge along with Sarah Jane Blake Sir Peter’s daughter.
Sir Peter was murdered in 2001 by pirates while at anchor in the River Amazon in his environmental campaigning yacht Seamaster.
