A good choice for exploring the shallow swatchways of the East Coast, this
is a lively little sloop from 1982, with a reasonable turn of speed and docile
handling in most weather. She has a ballasted centreboard, which inevitably
impinges on cabin space but gives better performance to windward than
most comparable bilge-keelers. The accommodation layout is one of her
strong suits, and includes a decent galley for a small boat, including a two-
burner gas cooker and built-in icebox, and a separate heads compartment
opposite. She manages berths for fi ve crew at a pinch – two in the forepeak,
two single settee berths in the saloon and a quarterberth – but is most
comfortably cruised two-up, with ample space on deck and down below
for a couple of kids. Most 720s have a petrol outboard engine rather than an
inboard diesel.
