This 36-footer was built with two deck layouts on the same hull – a high-
volume, deep canoe body with fairly full bows, a relatively deep forefoot and
a fl at run aft. The Classic is an aft-cockpit yacht with a deep, secure cockpit
and slab reefi ng; the 36CC (pictured, right) features a shallower centre
cockpit, a roller mainsail and a different accommodation layout. Both were
fi tted with a masthead rig with slightly sweptback spreaders and are closely
matched under sail, although the Classic’s greater sail area give her the edge
in light to moderate conditions and her rod steering is more positive than the
36CC’s long, complex cable run. These boats are easy enough to handle on
most points of sail, although the helm needs a lot of attention downwind in
a blow. Below decks, both boats feature ample-sized fore and aft cabins; the
36CC has useful sea-berths in the saloon but the Classic has a roomer living
area and later boats boast twin aft cabins.
