Pascal Bidegorry's 131ft trimaran Banque Populaire V goes Transatlantic in under 88 hours
Banque Populaire V, skippered by Pascal Bidegorry, has won the multihull drag race across the Atlantic. The 131ft French trimaran crossed from Ambrose Light to the Lizard in just 3d 15h 25m 48s, at an astonishing average speed of 32.94 knots.
Bidegorry and his 11 crew smashed the existing record by over 12 hours and set an incredible new 24-hour distance record of 907.9 miles, having averaged 37.83 knots for an entire day.
Banque Populaire V was chasing Franck Cammas’ 103ft trimaran Groupama 3, the former record holder, which left New York with a head start of 2h 35m. Banque Populaire V finished at 1413:30 UTC on Sunday with Groupama 3 crossing just 11m 32s later.
