Giant turbines to be built off Wales
The next time you are about to deploy a sea anchor in St David’s Channel – admittedly an unlikely scenario as limitless sea room there isn’t – make sure the cable isn’t too long as you might find yourself hooked to the sea-bed.
For plans are afoot to create the world’s first deep-sea tidal energy farm off St David’s peninsula in Pembrokeshire. Eight underwater turbines standing 45ft high above the sea-bed will be twirling around like Jumbo jet engines powering up 5,000 homes.
The £10 million scheme should be operational by 2010.
