Stories of Titanic disaster sought
An organisation called the Belfast Titanic Convention is seeking stories, photographs and memorabilia from historians and ship-spotters to become part of a ‘centenary celebration’ to mark the launch of the White Star liner in 1911.
The four-funnelled giant slid beneath the ice-cold waters of the North Atlantic in April 1912 having hit an ice-berg. More than 1,500 passengers and crew were lost.
It’s a strange thing to celebrate. Will some society gather together stories to celebrate the building of HMS Hood, the Herald of Free Enterprise or perhaps the Piper Alpha oil rig?
