Triumphant return for golden oldie
South Coast sailors take note: Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, YM’s favourite sailing pensioner, returns to Portsmouth this weekend having finished a respectable 4th in the Velux 5 Oceans Race. Sir Robin will be escorted from the Needles to Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth, by his Clipper Round the World Racing fleet, almost 40 years after he became the first person to sail non-stop around the world in the 1968-69 Sunday Times Golden Globe.
Sir Robin will sail up the Solent in his Open 60 yacht SAGA INSURANCE, accompanied by a flotilla of spectator craft and a Royal Navy escort. On board will be Roger Taylor from Queen, Robin’s daughter Sara Hales and his 5 grandchildren and other dignitaries, friends and family of Sir Robin
