Life Cell is just one of the new bits of kit Yachting Monthly found in Amsterdam at METS 2015, the world’s biggest marine equipment trade show
When his 41ft steel fishing boat sank in seconds, leaving Australian boater Scott Smiles and his crew no time to grab safety kit, he knew there had to be a better way. That way is Life Cell. Taffrail mounted, it has the buoyancy of a horseshoe buoy and contains flares, smoke, torch – whatever you need or is mandated. It floats free if the boat sinks, or can be thrown over the side with the liferaft. The EPIRB holder is a nice touch, so you don’t have to hold it upright and out of the water for hours. AUS$399 (no UK distributor yet).
