Giles Chichester talks about his father's seminal voyage
The son of Sir Francis Chichester, Giles, will be giving a talk at Schroders London Boat Show on 8 January about his father’s seminal circumnavigation to raise money for Yachting Monthly’s Gipsy Moth IV project.
The talk, ‘My father’s voyage around the world’, will describe Sir Francis’ 226-day, 29,630-mile voyage in 1966-67, when he made just one stop in Sydney. At the time it was the fastest small boat round-the-world voyage.
The cost of a ticket to the lecture from 3.30pm-4.30pm, in the Waterfront Rooms 31/32, Excel Centre is £10 (including VAT) and £8.51 will go towards the restoration fund for Gipsy Moth IV. Or there is a special combined lecture and boat show ticket price of £20.
Gipsy Moth IV is now owned by the UK Sailing Academy and is currently being restored by Camper & Nicholsons at Gosport. But at least a further £100,000 is required for the job.
