Hear ye, hear ye
Bridlington’s Town Crier will announce the 100th birthday of the sailing coble Three Brothers on 17 June, starting a campaign by the Bridlington Sailing Coble Preservation Society to raise £45,000 to save her.
A grant application has been submitted to the Fisheries Local Action Group. Local historian Mike Wilson told Yachting Monthly: ‘For the people of Bridlington and the East Yorkshire coast, the Three Brothers should be a permanent symbol of our history. Fishing is an essential aspect of our background and to allow the coble to disappear would be unthinkable.
This vessel is as important to this region as the Cutty Sark, Mary Rose, Endeavour or Victory are to the nation. Three Brothers is the last of her kind and should not be lost.’ The vessel is now on the National Register of Historic Ships.
