Construction has started on a project to widen the bridge that connects Hayling Island to Langstone in Chichester Harbour. Navigation under the bridge will be complicated by scaffolding obstructing the spans, however at least one of the central spans will be left clear at all times. Orange flashing lights will mark obstructed channels at night. The project is anticipated to be complete by the 23rd of August 2002. Until then mariners are asked to pass slowly and with caution under the bridge.
